Music inspired by rock n’ roll? Why not! In commemoration of the 40th anniversary of Jimi Hendrix’s passing, we bring you Bending Hendrix, composed by Mike Janzen for Winnipeg’s guitar virtuoso Greg Lowe and the WSO (commissioned by CBC Radio). Composer Tim Brady turns contemporary music and classic rock on their heads in his witty arrangement of three classic songs in The Guess Who Symphony, performed by Canadian jazz singer Ndidi Onukwulu. For this year’s NMF main event, we are proud to present the North American premiere of Valentin Silvestrov’s epic work, Metamusik, featuring Jenny Lin on piano. Due to its sheer size and scope, this modern masterpiece, considered one of Silvestrov’s greatest musical achievements, is a work that is rarely programmed anywhere in the world. Thus, tonight’s presentation of the piece will be an historic event.
