Tonight, the WSO Wind and Brass + Percussion joins the University of Manitoba Wind Ensemble and the Winnipeg Winds in this special concert event featuring works by our two distinguished guest composers Steven Stucky and John Psathas. Hear the North American premiere of Psathas’ extravagantly scored Saxon for large brass ensemble. Winnipeg’s own Byron Wood takes the stage in a performance of Stucky’s Concerto for Percussion and Wind Ensemble, followed by a special performance of Threnos, a work written in memory of a close friend and colleague of Mr. Stucky’s. As our grand finale, we bring you Michael Colgrass’ celebrated tone poem, Arctic Dreams, a work inspired by his experiences living above the Arctic Circle with an Inuit family.
